PERSONNEL of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have intercepted a man carrying a dead infant without proper documents at the port of Zamboanga City, the police said on Friday, June 30.
The local police said the dead infant was discovered inside the traveling bag of a Basilan-bound passenger that passed through an x-ray machine.
The police said the passenger, Alex Insana, said the infant was his niece who died at a government-owned hospital in the city.
Insana told the police that he is bringing the remains to Isabela City, Basilan for proper burial.
But Insana failed to provide pertinent documents to prove that it was his niece, which prompted the PCG personnel to hold and interrogate him.
Later on, he was released and allowed to travel after he was able to secure a death certificate of the baby duly signed by the attending Ob-Gyne of the hospital.
