THE municipal government of Manapla ranked first in the real property tax (RPT) collection in Negros Occidental in 2016, records of the Office of the Provincial Treasurer (OPT) showed.
Of the 19 municipalities covered by the Provincial Government in terms of RPT collection, Manapla posted the highest collection efficiency rate of almost 104 percent.
With a collection target of P26.78 million in 2016, the municipality has an actual collection of almost P27.76 million.
It was followed by Binalbagan with a collection efficiency of 94.24 percent. The town collected P49.96 million from its target of P53.02 million.
Murcia and La Castellana ranked third and fourth, respectively, with collection efficiency ratings of 92.91 percent and 82.42 percent.
Murcia’s actual collection was P46.48 million out of its P50.02 million target while La Castellana collected P16.43 million out of the P19.93 million goal.
Having 80.15 percent collection efficiency rate, Hinigaran ranked fifth with actual collection of P30.95 million from P38.61 million target collection.
E.B. Magalona, meanwhile, has an actual collection of P26.27 million resulting to efficiency rate of 70.18 percent followed by Pulupandan, P14.54 million at 67.94 percent; Isabela, P17.67 million at 65.01 percent; Calatrava, P17.03 million at 63.61 percent; Valladolid, P12.71 million at 60.57 percent; Toboso, P13.33 million at 58.88 percent; Pontevedra, P15.26 million at 58.58 percent; and Moises Padilla, P10.53 million at 54.77 percent.
For the remaining municipalities, Cauayan has P10.54 million at 52.93 percent efficiency rate; Ilog, P10.98 million at 45.16 percent; San Enrique, P6.54 million at 44.81 percent; Hinoba-an, P7.4 million at 43.65 percent; Salvador Benedicto, P5.26 million at 40.10 percent; and Candoni, P1.94 million at 18.77 percent.
All in all, actual RPT collection of the province from its 19 municipalities reached almost P342 million, or 69.81 percent of the P489-million target last year.
Provincial Treasurer Nilda Generoso, in an interview Tuesday, urged municipal governments to maintain efficiency in collecting taxes, as she pointed out that “tax is the government’s major source of funds vital in the implementation of various programs and projects in the province.”
In terms of RPT collection sharing, Generoso said the provincial government gets 35 percent of the one percent basic tax. The remaining 40 and 25 percent are shares of the municipality and barangays, respectively.
The Provincial School Board, on the other hand, gets 50 percent of the additional one percent tax while the remaining 50 percent share goes to the Municipal School Board.
