MANDAUE City Councilor Demetrio "Jun" Cortes Jr. died in Chong Hua Hospital-Mandaue at 4:35 p.m. last Thursday.
Cortes, 67, succumbed to a chronic kidney disease. He was the first councilor of Mandaue and elder brother of Rep. Jonas Cortes (Cebu, 6th district).
Mandaue Councilor Carmelino Cortes Del Mar Jr., relative of the Cortes, said the wake of the late councilor will be at the Cortes ancestral house in Barangay Centro. He said the interment will be on January 13 at the Mandaue Catholic Cemetery.
City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing, Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna and the rest of the City Councilors expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Cortes, who was fondly called as Tatay Jun by his colleagues in the Mandaue City Hall, was serving his last term as city councilor.
Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna said the late councilor previously served as a barangay captain of Centro. He was then the vice mayor of Mandaue for one term, which was during the time of former mayor Alfredo "Pedong" Ouano. (FMG/VoxPop Cebu)
