PO3 Renato Inot, the policeman involved in a road rage incident last week, was subjected to a surprise drug test yesterday morning.
Inot was among the 180 police and non-uniformed personnel (NUP) of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) who took the drug test.
Inot and his cousin, Adelcos Alonzo, are facing criminal complaints for beating up and pointing a gun at a truck driver and a supervisor of a private company last Aug. 26.
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of MCPO, said they filed complaints for grave threats and physical injuries against Inot and complaints of grave threats, physical injuries and illegal possession of firearms against Alonzo at the City Prosecutor’s Office.
The inquest was conducted by Assistant City Prosecutor Mary Francis Daquipil.
“PO3 Inot is in our custody. I told him to undergo a drug test so that I will know if he uses illegal drugs,” Alanas said in an interview yesterday.
He said Inot and Alonzo will file a counter-affidavit.
Since the police officer surrendered and was not arrested, Alanas said Inot can go home, but he must report to the office every day.
Alonzo was also allowed to go home while they are waiting for the resolution of the prosecutor.
A video footage showing Inot beating up Crispen Ricarte, the truck driver of Triple L Comprehensive Aircon and Refrigeration Services, on A.C. Cortes Ave. circulated in social networking sites since Friday last week.
The police officer alleged that Ricarte blocked him when he tried to overtake his truck.
The video also showed Alonzo pointing a gun at Leonardo Orcullo, the supervisor of Triple L Comprehensive and Ricarte’s passenger at that time. The firearm is Inot’s 9mm Glock.
In a separate interview, Jude Daniel Mendoza, drug test in-charge of PNP Crime Laboratory 7, said there were 200 police officers and NUPs who were listed to undergo drug tests.
As of 12 p.m., 180 personnel of MCPO showed up.
Alanas said he initially asked his men to report to the headquarters for a meeting.
The MCPO has yet to get the result of the drug test.
