GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. said on Tuesday he picked current officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr. as the next director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo).
The governor announced his decision to reporters on Tuesday after a press briefing at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall also attended by Castil.
Castil was included in the shortlist of candidates provided by the Philippine National Police headquarters to Marañon.
He said he directed Castil to make the province peaceful, drug-free, and attractive as an investment and tourist destination since Negros Occidental was listed as the second most visited province by domestic tourists.
It is important that the province remain peaceful to attract more investors, he added.
In response, Castil assured the governor that he will comply with the directive.
"We will make the province a safe place to live, work and invest in," he added.
Castil also thanked Marañon for the trust and confidence though he has yet to see the order from the higher headquarters.
Last month, Marañon had asked Camp Crame to provide a new list of candidates for the next provincial police director.
Aside from Castil, the list also included Senior Superintendents Moises Villaceran, head of Police Regional Community Relations, and Romeo Mangwag of Police Regional Operations and Plans Division.
Castil took over the helm at the provincial police after Senior Superintendent William Señoron was relieved from his post following his alleged links to illegal drugs.
