Marañon: Trump presidency will improve PH economy

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he believes the leadership of next United States president Donald Trump will have a positive effect on the country’s economy.

He expressed confidence that electing Trump into office “will not affect our economy. I think it will improve, but of course the Filipinos will have to do their share.”

The governor dismissed fears that there will be a drawback in the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

“In the first place, the minimum wage there is $13.50 per hour. They (businessmen) will benefit if they will locate here because it’s cheaper,” he noted.

Marañon said that he doesn’t think American businessmen will pull out their businesses from the Philippines.

“At the end of the day, it’s just business and whoever will profit. For these businessmen, they could profit more if they will locate here, but we also have to improve our services,” he added.

Meanwhile, Marañon said he actually believed Trump will defeat Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton in the US presidential elections last November 8.

“From the start, I believed that he (Trump) would win,” the governor said, adding that he had read a book about Trump a long time ago.

“His life was interesting, especially about girls,” the governor quipped.
