TROPICAL Depression "Maring" is now traversing the Laguna-Manila area after it made landfall over Mauban, Quezon, Tuesday morning, September 12, the weather state bureau said in its latest bulletin.
Work in government offices and courts in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon have been suspended due to the inclement weather brought by Maring.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the tropical depression will bring moderate to heavy rains in Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Central Luzon, as well as in Bicol, Mimaropa, and Pangasinan.
Residents in these areas were alerted against possible landslide and flashfloods. Sea travel is also risky over the eastern seaboards of Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol region, added Pagasa.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 was raised over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, northern Quezon including Polillo island, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Pangasinan, Laguna, and southern Aurora.
Pagasa said that as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the center of Maring was located in the vicinity of Laguna, packing maximum winds of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 100 kph.
Maring was forecast to move west northwest at 15 kph, and was estimated to be 140 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales by Wednesday morning, September 13.
Meanwhile, another tropical cyclone, Typhoon Lannie (Talim), continues to move west-northwest. It slowed down though Tuesday morning.
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, it was located at 865 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 145 kph. It was forecast to move west-northwest at 24 kph.
Pagasa said Lannie will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains in areas within its 350-kilometer diameter and it will be located at 495 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, by Wednesday morning.
Residents in areas affected by both tropical cyclones were advised to take appropriate actions. (VoxPop Philippines)
