TODAY, July 19, marks another historical moment as Baguio City is set to forge a sisterhood relationship with the City of San Juan, Metro Manila during the scheduled Joint Executive-Legislative Session this afternoon at 2PM at the session hall of the Baguio City Hall.
The local government of San Juan which includes their elected city officials, department heads and section chiefs are currently having their Executive-Legislative Study tour Program and Planning Session for their 2018 Budget deliberations which will culminate on July 21, 2017.
In her letter to Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan last month, San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez stated that they have chosen the City of Baguio as their venue for their study tour because of the fact that the city has been given numerous recognitions by different entities for its best practices.
Mayor Gomez further stated that during their Liga ng mga Barangay Sisterhood Agreement Signing in 2012 and 2015, they were also hoping to forge a sisterhood agreement with the city when they get the chance to visit the City of Pines.
With this, City Council Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks and Playgrounds Chairman Councilor Elmer Datuin has endorsed the forging of the sisterhood relationship and recommended for City Officials of Baguio to jointly welcome Mayor Gomez with the other members of her delegation.
It further recommended that their offer for a sisterhood relationship be “accepted” and that the same be forwarded to the Sisterhood and Twinning Committee to make necessary arrangements in the realization of the said sisterhood relationship.
Meanwhile further discussions for the establishment of the sisterhood ties between the two cities will ensue when both parties meet this afternoon.
The sisterhood agreement is expected to be formally signed when the members of the Baguio City Council and their delegates in return will visit the City of San Juan in the next few days.
