MAXINE Medina of the Philippines is still in the running to get the Miss Universe title as she survived the first round of the competition.
Medina, a model and an interior design graduate, was the last candidate to be called during the announcement of the Top 9 candidates.
In a video presentation, Medina was confident to win the title.
"When I started this journey, I was a simple girl. I did't expect anything… I’m confident I can be Miss Universe," said Medina.
The top nine contestants, called in particular order, are:

3. Miss France Iris Mittenaere
4. Miss Mexico Kristal Silva
5. Miss Kenya Mary Esther Were
6. Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar
7. Miss Canada Siera Bearchell
8. Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier
9. Miss Philippines Maxine Medina
Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach will pass on her crown to the new winner of this year’s pageant.
