DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio treated Davao City Police Office (DCPO) personnel to a boodle fight Tuesday noon (March 6) at the DCPO Parade Ground, Camp Captain Domingo E. Leonor, Davao City, as her way to express her gratitude for the successful security coverage during the staging of Davao Region Athletic Association Meet (Davraa) 2018.
"Magpasalamat ko sa inyuha (I thank you) for the very recent success, very recent event katong atong Davraa. Dili mamahimong magmalampuson ang celebration, ang event sa Davraa kun dili tungod sa inyuhang tabang, kon dili dahil sa inyuhang pagod, puyat, luha, dugo at pawis. Maraming-maraming salamat sa inyung tanan (The Davraa celebration wouldn't have been successful if not for your help, if not for your efforts, overtime work, tears, blood, and sweat)," Duterte-Carpio said.
The city hosted the weeklong sports competition in the region last February 18 to 23. The City successfully secured the participants with no untoward incidents reported.
The event has gathered around 7,000 participants from different provinces and cities in Davao Region.
The boodle fight was Duterte-Carpio's thanksgiving for a job well done on the part of the law enforcers. She joined the 500 police force in the event.
The mayor also gave thanks to Pilipinong May Puso Foundation for sponsoring the boodle fight.
She further asked anew the cooperation of the police force, as the city is celebrating its 81st Araw ng Davao and several activities are lined up during the month-long celebration, which is expected to draw in a number of people.
DCPO Director Alexander Tagum, for his part, thanked the mayor for the appreciation of their efforts in keeping the peace and order of the city.
"We thank all the people who tirelessly support and appreciate all our efforts in maintaining the peace and order of our beloved city especially our honorable Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio," he said.
Duterte-Carpio also urged the public, especially motorcycle drivers, to wear safety gears such as helmet when driving to avoid accidents.
She said it will prevent the people from seeking medical assistance from the government due to their negligence and disobedience to the law as the assistance that would be provided to them could have helped other indigent people who are most in need.
She also told the police not to impound the vehicles of those who have no helmets on but to merely remind them to observe safety precaution, as the vehicle owners would only end up seeking government's help in claiming their vehicles.
"Kung pwede, just hold it until maka-produce ng helmet kung dili maka-produce, di ra na kuhaon [ang motorcycle]," she said.
Duterte-Carpio also had a boodle fight with the personnel of Central 911 and Public Safety and Security Command Center.
Earlier, Duterte-Carpio joined around 1,200 street sweepers, garbage collectors, and gardeners under the City Environment and Natural Resources Office on February 28.
