ARAYAT -- Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino said that he is asking for an apology from TV network ABS-CBN for its "damaging portrayal" of the town in its hit series "Ang Probinsyano".
Alejandrino also asked Governor Lilia Pineda on Monday, July 24, to have the resolution adopted by Provincial Board.
“The show’s portrayal had a negative effect on our town,” he told VoxPop Pampanga, adding that the portrayal allegedly casted a "negative shadow" on the town.
The mayor said that some businessmen who earlier expressed intention of investing in the town reportedly now have second thoughts.
“Ang Probinsyano" is a television series about a provincial cop "SPO2 Ricardo 'Cardo' Dalisay" played by actor Coco Martin. It is shown nationwide and globally through the network's "The Filipino Channel."
In its latest series, it talks of a terrorist group operating in Mt. Arayat, a popular site in the town, which Dalisay will try to eliminate.
The roles in the said episode are portrayed by Kapampangans. Martin is from the City of San Fernando while former Pampanga governor and Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid, who plays the rebel commander, is a native of Porac town.
Alejandrino also lashed on former Pampanga Mark Lapid, who plays a member of the same guerilla group, for participating in the TV series, which taints the reputation of the town and province they once served.
It was reported that ABS-CBN had no intention to portray the town negatively.
Facebook reactions on the said news also criticized the Arayat officials for taking a fictional work as gospel truth.
