CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- To avoid further deterioration of the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa) here, City Mayor Edwin Santiago recommended to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to cement the thoroughfare instead of asphalting it.
The Dolores junction portion of the Jasa has been irking commuters and motorists due to the hazardous craters caused by flooding brought about by past monsoon rains.
Santiago said the asphalt that is plastered at the highway gets peeled off when soaked in water, resulting in deep hollows seen after the recent flooding.
“Ang tubig ay talagang kalaban ng aspalto kaya kapag ang daan na nakaaspalto binaha, sigurado battered yan na pag humupa,” he said.
He said he already advised the DPWH to cement the major road to avoid experiencing the same problem and secure the safety of motorists.
“I already advised them. Sabi ko hindi na muna pwede yung aspalto hanggat hindi pa nasosolusyunan yung pagbaha natin dito,” he said.
But Santiago said that cement takes longer time to dry compared to asphalt, which may also hamper the trips of motorists.
“Pero halos six lanes na rin naman tayo dito, per portion nalang ang irerecommend natin na isara if ever pumayag sila,” he said.
Santiago said the craters are already covered with soil as temporary solution to the flooding, as well as to prevent accidents.
