The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) has expressed support to Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) by providing fuel assistance for the use of Motorized Anti-Street Crime Operatives (Masco).
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of BCPO, said Friday he met with MBCCI chief executive officer Frank Carbon to discuss the plan of the business community to extend assistance in the logistics of the police.
Wanky said the MBCCI also asked him for other proposals which can be assisted by the business sector.
The MBCCI and the BCPO will sign the memorandum of agreement for the fuel assistance on Monday.
Wanky thanked the MBCCI for their support and continued partnership with the police.
The police chief said the MBCCI is concerned with the anti-criminality campaign and urged the police to do more to maintain peace and order in the city.
The BCPO will re-activate the Masco to aid the police in crime prevention, he added.
In June this year, Carbon had urged the police to intensify their presence in critical areas amid security threats hounding the country.
Carbon made call following the intelligence report on seven vehicles allegedly carrying explosives from Mindanao that will pass through Visayas to reach Manila aside from the security concerns brought by ongoing terrorist attack in Marawi City and Resorts World Manila incident.
He added that the police should double their efforts in ensuring presence to deter crimes and other activities that could endanger not only business operations but also the safety of the public.
Carbon then cited the Lacson Tourism Strip in Bacolod, where most hotels and restaurants are operating, as one of the critical areas.
Others are malls, also a major point of convergence, he added.
Though business operations in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod, remain normal and there is no need to panic, Carbon said that intensified presence of authorities is vital as it further boosts the province’s business climate.
Carbon also said that security concerns do not only involve the police, and should be a concerted effort of the whole community, including the business sector.
