THE militant group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) chose to celebrate Bonifacio Day, November 30, with a battle cry against labor contractualization and neo-liberalization policies set by the United States.
Unlike their counterparts in Cebu and other areas in the country, who staged a nationwide protest of the Marcos burial, KMU-Southern Mindanao Region (SMR) Secretary General- Carlo Olalo said that they are calling for the end of contractualization, implementation of minimum wage of P750, and end of militarization in different areas in the country.
“Kini nga panawagan mao ang problema sa trabahante ilalom sa neo-liberal na polisiya sa imperialistang Estados Unidos. Dugay nani siya nga problema maona dako ang pasalig sa mga mamumuo sa pronouncement ni President Rodrigo Duterte kabahin sa independent foreign policy (This plea is the problem of the workers under the neoliberal policy of the Imperial US. This has been our problem for a long time and workers have put their trust on the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte who promised to an independent foreign policy),” Olalo said.
About 500 workers and union members of the group gathered at the Freedom Park in Davao City Wednesday, November 30.
The labor leader added their group supports Duterte's decision to break free from US economic policies.
He said that like the national hero Andres Bonifacio, who fought for the liberty of the country, they will also fight for their rights. (KVC)
