A CANDIDATE soldier undergoing the first day of military training in Isabela died from heatstroke last Thursday, the military said Saturday.
Jackson Manallog, 21, of Cabagan town in Isabela, died during Candidate Soldier Course training for new recruits at 5th Infantry Division (5ID) Training School in Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz (CMFDC).
Lieutenant Colonel Ignacio Timbol, CMFDC Station Hospital physician, said that Manallog passed out while undergoing physical exercises and was brought at the hospital around 1:30 p.m. for medical treatment.
Manallog underwent medical emergency procedures at the hospital, but was immediately transferred to Ilagan Doctors General Hospital (IDGH) when he begun to have seizure episode with declining vital signs around 9:40 p.m., the 5ID Public Affairs office said in a statement.
Manallog was pronounced dead due to heatstroke at 10 p.m.
"The whole Star troopers sympathize with the family of CS Manallog for his untimely death. He will be given all the necessary support and assistance from the 5th Infantry Division just like a regular soldier of the AFP," Major General Paul Atal, 5ID commander, said.
The military is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Manallog. (VoxPop Philippines)
