MIDNANAO films and talents are among the nominees for the 40th Gawad Urian with Sheron Dayoc for Women of the Weeping River and Bagane Fiola for Baboy Halas who join film bigwigs as nominees for Best Picture.
The awards night is scheduled to be held on July 20 at ABS-CBN in Quezon City. Nominated with them are Pamilya Ordinaryo by Eduardo Roy Jr., Paglipay by Zig Madamba Dulay, Ang Babaeng Humayo by Lav Diaz, and Ma Rosa by Brillante Mendoza.
Dayoc and Fiola are again pitted against Mendoza, Roy, Dulay, Diaz, along with Paolo Villaluna or Pauwi Na, Avid Liongoren for Saving Sally, and Lemuel Lorca for Ned's Project for Best Direction.
Nominees for Best Actor are: Tommy Abuel, Dagsin; Bembol Roco, Pauwi Na; Garry Cabalic, Paglipay; Khalil Ramos, 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten; Paolo Ballesteros, Die Beautiful; Ronwald Martin, Pamilya Ordinaryo; and Pepe Smith, Singing in Graveyards.
Dayoc's film is nominated in almost all categories including: Best Actress by Laila Ulao, Best Supporting Actor by Taha Daranda, Best Supporting Actress Sharifa Pearlsia Ali-Dans, Best Screenplay by Dayoc himself, Best Cinematography by Rommel Sales, Best Production Design by Harley Alcasid, Best Editing by Carlo Francisco Manatad, Best Music by Kit Mendoza, and Best Sound by Albert Michael Idioma and Immanuel Verona.
Fiola's film also gets multiple nominations. These are: Best Cinematography by Raphael Meting & Mark Limbaga, Best Production Design by Joel Geolamen, and Beswt Sound by Willie Apa, Jr. and Charlie Daclan.
The other Best Actress nominess are: Nora Aunor, Hinulid; Jaclyn Jose, Ma Rosa; Cherry Pie Picache, Pauwi Na; Ai Aidelas Alas, Area; Charo Santos, Ang Babaeng Humayo; Elizabeth Oropesa, MRS; Irma Adlawan, ORO; Hasmine Kilip, Pamilya Ordinaryo, and; Angeli Bayani, Ned's Project.
