A MISSING Korean, who reportedly missing for almost two weeks, was found alive Tuesday morning, June 20, in a rice granary in Latang village, Barlig town in Mountain Province.
Sung Kyu Choi was able to survive 11 days in the mountain without enough food and water. She was then sent to Barlig District Hospital for medical treatment.
According to Dr. Gina Buyocan, Chief of Barlig District Hospital, Choi is now under stable condition, however, he is still being hydrated and his blood pressure being stabilized, and will be brought to Bontoc as soon as his health condition permits.
According to reports, Choi was found sheltered in a rice granary owned by Joselito Tukyap, a local and a member-responder of Barlig Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), amidst the mossy and thickly forested area of the village.
Choi was later transported by the responders across the rugged terrain by Barlig MDRRMO before he was ferried to Barlig District Hospital.
The Mountain Province Provincial Government lauded the efforts of the different groups who devoted their time and effort during the search and rescue operations.
"Mr. Choi is now reunited with his family, with the Korean embassy consul and other staff, friends and other Korean volunteers who have been giving physical as well as moral support during the 7-day operation," the Mountain Province Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said in a statement.
