MANY-TIME champion Corpus Christi School trails MOGCHS and Igpit Elementary School in the exciting race for overall supremacy of the 21st Milo Little Olympics Mindanao Leg, which ended here last Sunday at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center.
In partial tally using the point system medal count, top rival Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School leads the secondary field with 102 points to Corpus Christi’s 99 points.
It further earns 15 points in scrabble event as lawn tennis boys and girls as well as the volleyball girls contribute 14 and 15 points, respectively, to MOGCHS’ own bid for the overall title.
Corpus Christi scores big in basketball, beating Bukidnon Faith Christi School in the final to register 25 points. It draws 22 points from chess, while producing 20 and 15 points more from badminton and football competitions.
Iligan National High School follows MOGCHS and Corpus Christi at third place with 71 points, gaining 25 in volleyball girls after besting Angelicum Learning Centre in their titular match.
Iligan also enjoys an aggregate 30 points in volleyball boys, lawn tennis and sepak takraw events.
Meanwhile, it’s a four-way race for the over-all crown in elementary division.
Igpit Elementary School takes the lead with 75 points with its athletics’ boys and girls hugely contributing 50 points, while hauling off 25 points from its championship win in volleyball boys.
Maramag Elementary School comes in second place with 68 markers, highlighted by its 20-point output in its athletics girls’ rivalry.
Maramag also secures 15 points each in lawn tennis girls and volleyball girls with 10 more from basketball boys.
At close third is Corpus Christi with 28 points from badminton girls, football and table tennis boys and girls, while Bulua Elementary School stikes hard in athletics and chess boys and girls to land at fourth spot.
This, even as there are still five more sporting events yet to be tabulated in the medal count, including arnis, gymnastics, karatedo, swimming and taekwondo.
Corpus Christi can still pull off a surprise as it is hoping to pile up sizable points in gymnastics, swimming and taekwondo that used to give them a breather.
“Gahulat lang mi sa uban sports nga wala pa natala kay posible mo-inat pag-angkon sa over-all labina nga dikit ra ang lumba,” said Corpus Christi sports coordinator Eric Miguel.
