MORE slots are still available for open executives who wish to play with Asia's first grand master (GM) Eugene Torre in a simultaneous exhibition set Sunday, October 23, at the Jardin del Roca Resort in Eden, Toril, Davao City.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto, who was one of the guests at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, said Torre is arriving Friday, October 21.
The veteran chess master recently clinched the men's open board 3 bronze medal in the 42nd Chess Olympiad Baku 2016 in Azerbaijan. He will first play with 10 top kiddies players at Market Basket in Damosa, Lanang.
Infiesto also said that after the simultaneous exhibitions and the awarding of certificates, Torre will share some tips as well as give an inspirational message.
Infiesto encourage everyone to witness the rare opportunity, saying, "This is the day to celebrate chess. We are happy to invite fellow athletes and sports enthusiast since this is an open invitation for everybody."
He, however, apologized that they can only accommodate 20 participants considering that the simul will take three to four hours.
Registration fee is P1,000 inclusive of a certificate and a memorabilia.
The proceeds of the event will benefit Torre's campaign in the World Seniors Chess Championships on November 18 to December 1 in Czech Republic. (ABM)
