BACOLOD City Councilor Noli Villarosa, president of Liga ng mga Barangay, on Tuesday, August 1, said the Liga National Executive Board will hold a meeting today in Manila to discuss the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this October.
Villarosa said that afterwards, they will meet with Senators Aquilino Pimentel, Juan Edgardo Angara, Grace Poe, Francis Escudero, and Richard Gordon. They will also meet with President Rodrigo Duterte to determine his decision.
He said that they are not in favor to postpone the barangay elections, but if it will be postponed, they will ask President Duterte to allow the incumbent barangay officials a hold-over in their positions.
Villarosa said the Liga National will also discuss with the President the report that 47 percent of barangay captains in the country are involved in illegal drugs.
Of the 42, 360 village chiefs, about 20,000 are believed to have links to illegal drugs and are not doing their jobs as barangay officials.
“We should identify them so that they will be removed from their posts,” Villarosa added.
