THE Joint Task Force Sulu, through its navy unit, rescued a passenger-cargo vessel after encountering engine trouble Thursday, November 3, in the Sulu Sea, a military official said.
Western Mindanao Command Spokesman Filemon Tan Jr. on Friday, November 4, said the Naval Task Group Sulu deployed two boats to conduct search and rescue operation after the Jolo Coastguard Station reported that M/L Nadzramar encountered engine trouble and “was dead on water” in the vicinity of Bubuan Island, Sulu.
The two navy vessel found the wooden-hulled M/L Nadzramar at 2.1 nautical miles northeast of Minis Island, Panglima Tahil, Sulu.
Tan said the stranded vessel was en route to Zamboanga City coming from the island municipality of Pangutaran, Sulu when its engine conked out.
The M/L Nadzramar was loaded with 1,453 sacks of charcoal, 298 sacks of copra, 45 sacks of dried seaweed and 75 people, including 12 crew members.
Tan said the Navy’s Landing Craft 298 towed M/L Nadzramar to the port of Jolo and was turned over to the coastguard station where the passengers and crew were provided with food and water as well as medical check-up. (Sunnex)
