THE National Bureau of Investigation-Southern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-Semro) sees the filing of a libel case as a way for a journalist and a woman to answer the issues earlier hurled against an official and members of the bureau.
NBI-Semro director lawyer Arnold Rosales, assisted by his legal counsel, filed a libel case against Editha Caduaya, of Newsline Philippines, and a certain Amadea Aquino, before the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office (CPO), on Thursday, August 17.
Newsline Philippines is a digital news website that caters to people-centered reports, based on its official Facebook page Newsline.ph. The Newsline Philippines aims to provide news, information for the community and its people.
The case filed against the two accused stemmed over a news article online authored by Caduaya putting NBI 11 boss, 11 others in hot water, after Rosales allegedly extracted P500,000 from a businessman following a raid in Davao City.
The article was published online on August 12, 2017 with photos of the NBI head office and video footages wherein Rosales was seen holding a package believed to be containing the P500,000 and walked towards a coffee shop of SPA Salon followed by lawyer Ralph Falcutila.
Rosales earlier said he has not and would never accept cash from anyone that will place the bureau in jeopardy. He added that he instructed his personnel not to receive anything from the owner of the bar should he offer something.
The NBI-Semro director clarified that the plastic bag he was carrying, earlier, contained Korean Ginseng Tea. He said it is a birthday gift to him from Falcutila. He also clarified that he knows the latter, but they are not fraternity brothers.
Charges for violation of the anti-trafficking in persons act were already filed last week before the CPO against the bar owner Miguel Efren Aquino and his floor manager Alfreda Omambing Maghari, following their arrest last August 7.
Rosales also said that they have been closely watching the bar though the owner was alleged to have a connection and a protector from the NBI head office.
