THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has ordered the relief of its Negros Island Region head Mario Tonelete and Bacolod City chief Renato Garbo.
This was confirmed yesterday by NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin, who said that lawyer Renoir Baldovino from Tarlac will replace Garbo while Tonelete’s successor has not been named yet.
He said the relief of the two local NBI heads is part of the regular reshuffling taking place every two years depending on circumstances.
Tonelete, who served as NBI-NIR regional director for seven months, said in a phone interview he received his relief order Wednesday, adding that he is now assigned as OIC-regional director for NBI-Bicol Region.
He clarified that his relief has nothing to do with the reshuffling of NBI officials relative to the campaign against illegal drugs.
Garbo said in a text message that he has been transferred to Metro Manila.
