THOUSANDS of student-athletes, coaches, delegation officials and supporters from the six cluster athletic associations in Negros Occidental will converge Sunday at Panaad Park and Stadium for the staging of the 2016 Negros Occidental Division Meet dubbed as “School Sports: Training Ground for Future Champions and Leaders.”
Negros Occidental division sports coordinator Romeo Sison said these clusters are classified into Cluster 1 - municipalities of Toboso, Calatrava and Salvador Benedicto, Cluster 2 - cities of Victorias and Talisay and towns of Manapla, E.B. Magalona and Murcia while Cluster 3 inlcude municipalities of Pulupandan, Valladolid, San Enrique and Pontevedra.
Sison added that Cluster 4 is composed of local government units from Himamaylan City alongside towns of La Castellana, Binalbagan, Moises Padilla and Hinigaran.
Sison said that Sipalay City and towns of Cauayan, Candoni, Hinoba-an, and Ilog belongs to Cluster 5 excluding Kabankalan City, which has its own division office.
The Negros Occidental High School belongs to the last cluster.
The event is a qualification for any representative of the province in
the Negros Island Region (NIR) Regional Athletic meet in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, tentatively scheduled in February next year.
This dual meet is a result of the changed format imposed by the Department of Education (DepEd) in NIR after the academic year 2016-2017.
Athletes will be competing in arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, sepak takraw, sipa, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball, among the few.
“We invite everyone to witness the best athletes from our division as we prepare for the NIR regionals next year,” Sison said.
Last Monday, the Schools Division of Bacolod also staged their dual meet featuring public schools and Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea).
Other schools divisions that had their own division meets were cities of San Carlos, Escalante, Sagay, Cadiz, Silay, Bago, La Carlota, and Kabankalan.
