NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., who is currently in Australia for a business trip, met with various company executives as part of the Capitol’s economic and trade mission to Northern Territory.
The trip was organized by the Office of Consul General to the Northern Territory Januario Rivas and the Office of the Director of Asian Engagement Kate Walker.
According to the Capitol report on Friday, May 12, Marañon met with chief executive officers Kathryn Stenson of Group Training of Northern Territory (GTNT), and Sean Mahoney of International College of Advance Education (ICAE) in Darwin City, Northern Territory.
GTNT is the largest employer of apprentices and trainees in the Northern Territory. It is a non-profit organization that partners with big companies including Australian Skills Institute. It is an expert in vocational education and training and a solution provider for many companies, providing sustainable training and employment opportunities.
Stenson briefed the Negrense delegation of their services as well as their projects in the Philippines, including in the La Consolacion College of Bacolod City, the University of Batangas and Metropolitan Medical Centre College of Arts, Science and Technology.
Karen Dinsay, head of Negros Occidental Scholarship Program, presented
the scholarship program of the Provincial Government to the group, which earned the nod of the Australians for its pioneering and innovative interventions.
Marañon, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to the GTNT personnel for their warm welcome and for their very laudable efforts in making a difference in the lives of the students and teachers.
Meanwhile, the group also visited the International College of Advanced Education and met with chief executive officer Sean Mahoney who presented the international programs of the school on hospitality management and commercial cookery.
Mahoney toured the group to the school’s kitchen where there are six Filipinos who are currently enrolled in commercial cookery while at the same time working 20 hours per week in different restaurants around Darwin. (PR)
