THE Association of Chief Executives (ACE)-Negros raised concerns on the delivery of power supply in the province in the wake of fluctuations particularly in northern Negros.
Victorias City Mayor Frederick Francis Palanca, president of ACE-Negros, pointed out that Negros Occidental has the largest solar energy production in Asia and could have more than enough in terms of power supply.
However, the problem on fluctuation continues and is hurting the local government units, he said.
“We would like to assure investors of stable and reliable power. Fluctuations are causing defects to appliances,” Palanca added.
Zosimo Briones, head of Negros Operations and Maintenance of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), said power fluctuations are due to the surge in power supply that comes from intermittent energy source of a solar power plant.
He added that NGCP also has overloaded submarine cable, but the expansion is already in the pipeline.
“On Sunday, we will energize a new submarine cable linking Negros and Panay. It has a quadruple capacity compared to the existing capacity of 90 megawatts,” Briones said.
