The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) through its Negros First Animal Livelihood Program turned over animal-projects worth about P130,000 to various raiser-beneficiaries in four local government units (LGUs) on Wednesday.
The project component includes 325 animal heads such as piglets and free-range chicken totaling to P90, 000 and equipment worth P40,000 sourced from the 2015 budget.
PVO dispersed 25 heads of piglets for breeding amounting to P75,000 to raisers associations namely the Kabaka Inc. and YM4JPF, and to the Barangay Councils of Daan Banwa and Talubangi, both in Kabankalan City.
In Sipalay City, 300 heads of free-range chicken worth P15,000 were distributed to Nabulao National High School and Gil Montilla National High School. The animals are intended for their animal production subjects of senior high school students.
Part of these animals were dispersed to an indigenous people community in Barangay Damutan in Hinoba-an town.
The PVO also turned over P40,000 worth of incubator unit with capacity to store 100 eggs to the Barangay Council Tabao in Valladolid town.
The Negros First Animal Livelihood Program mainly targets to augment the livelihood of raisers in the province.
It is complementary to the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program which aims to improve and upgrade the genetic makeup of local livestock and poultry animals.
Under the program, each recipient-raiser of the piglets will pay back the province two heads after a year. It will be used by PVO for future dispersal program, which will benefit other raisers in the province.
PVO records showed that in 2015, the province has allocated about P16.6 million for its Negros First Animal Livelihood Program and Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program.
