NegOcc reverts provincial, area meets

WITH Negros Island Region (NIR) dissolved and Negros Occidental returning to Western Visayas region, the Provincial Sports Council on Thursday, August 24, held a meeting to discuss the staging of the forthcoming Provincial Meet and Area Meets.

It was decided that Negros Occidental will revert the staging of the school-based competitions as part of the qualifying process of selecting athletes to represent the province in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet where it will compete again with Iloilo, Capiz, Antique, Aklan and Guimaras.

It’s been two years since Negrenses played in these competitions after the implementation of clustering as qualifying tournament for the NIR Athletic Association Meet.

With this development, the Provincial Government assured all Area Meet hosts of a P200,000 subsidy, which has been doubled from the previous P100,000, except for Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea), and the Association of Negros Occidental Private Schools and School Administration Inc. (Anopssai).

Area I will be hosted by San Carlos City and will be participated by Escalante City and towns of Don Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava and Toboso with no date yet.

Sagay City will play host for Area II on November 9 to 11 with Cadiz City and Manapla; Area III, also on November 9 to 11, with host-Silay City, Talisay City, Victorias City and Murcia; Bago City to host Area IV on November 6 to 8 with La Carlota City, and towns of Pulupandan, San Enrique, Valladolid and Pontevedra.

For Area V, Binalbagan will host the meet on November 8 to 11 with Isabela, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Hinigaran and Himamaylan City while Area VI will be hosted by Ilog on November 8-11 with Kabankalan City, Sipalay City, Candoni, Hinobaan and Cauayan.

Bacolod City will hold the City Meet on November 9 and 10; Nopsscea, November 6 to 18; Anopssai, November 16 to 18; and Negros Occidental High School on November 29 and 30.

The 2017 Palarong Panlalawigan is scheduled December 10 to 15 at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
