THE Department of Trade and Industry will open a Negosyo Center in E.B. Magalona seen to further develop the town’s coffee and blue crab sectors.
The center, the fourth to be opened in the province this year, is lodged at the municipal hall and will be unveiled on Friday, October 6.
Engiemar Tupas, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, Tuesday, October 3, said coffee and blue crabs are two potential commodities of the locality which the Negosyo Center can help develop.
This is through the services provided by the center, including product development and marketing trainings, he said.
“Through entrepreneurship trainings, entrepreneurs will be equipped with more knowledge and skills on how to further improve their coffee and blue crab processing ventures,” Tupas said, adding that the Negosyo Center will also provide business name registration services to local enterprises.
E.B. Magalona is considered the province’s major exporter of blue crabs.
Aside from developing its seafood industry, the local government is currently working on promoting its Canlusong Coffee.
Early this year, the DTI opened three Negosyo Centers in cities of Sipalay, Bago and Himamaylan.
DTI provincial director Lea Gonzales said like other Negosyo Centers, the Municipal Government of E.B. Magalona also provided the area while the agency took charge of the refurbishing, basic equipment, and training component.
The establishment of Negosyo Centers is provided under the Republic Act 10644, or the Go Negosyo Act.
It is mainly aimed at providing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the ease in doing business, and facilitates access to grants and other forms of financial assistance, and shared service facilities (SSF), among others.
The law also seeks to ensure management guidance, assistance and improvement of the working conditions of MSMEs, and facilitate market access and link aging services for entrepreneurs.
