DRUG supply in Negros Occidental has dropped after the authorities have tightened security at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Julius Navales, director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) -Negros Island Region, said Friday, October 7, that 90 percent of drugs supplied to Negros came from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
He said the tightening of security at the national penitentiary have an effect on the supply of drugs.
“Before, the drug lords (at the Bilibid) control and deliver the drugs. But right now, because of the tight security, the supply has dropped,” Navales said.
However, Navales said, there are emerging players but still the supply in the province has dwindled.
Navales said they have operations wherein drug suspects sold them alum, or tawas because of the low supply of illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, PDEA is monitoring the police officials and drug groups tagged in the alleged drug matrix in Negros Occidental, which is circulating in Bacolod City.
Navales said there is some truth to the data because the drug groups mentioned in the white paper are existing and that some of the drug personalities listed have either surrendered or been arrested.
The document linked government officials, police officers, and prominent personalities in the province to the illegal drug trade. It mentioned that there are 11 groups engaging in illegal drugs and operating illegal gambling.
The unverified data said the supply of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in Negros Occidental came from various laboratories located in Cavite, Batangas, Iloilo City, Cebu City and Mindanao.
