THE Office of the Provincial Veterinarian said that Negros Occidental remains bird flu-free in the wake of an outbreak of the avian flu virus in Pampanga.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said breeders and cockers should observe proper quarantine period to avoid contamination.
Decena said the Bureau of Animal Industry has temporarily banned the movement of live domestic and wild birds and their products from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao.
He added that gamefowl breeders are warned not to bring their cocks to Luzon for cockfighting purposes because these would not be allowed to return to the province right away.
After engaging in cockfight in Luzon especially in Pampanga, they should observe the proper quarantine period, he said.
“They should not enter their farms for at least three days to avoid contamination,” Decena said.
Quarantine stations are in place in San Carlos City, Escalante City, Cadiz City, Victorias City, Bredco port, Banago port, and ports from Pulupandan to Hinobaan.
Decena said Negros Occidental has been a model in quarantine regulations in the country.
