NIR universities urged to join ‘Battle of the Brains’ quiz bee

WITH its relentless campaign on environmental care, the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is set to hold a “Positive Energy Battle of the Brains (BOTB)” quiz bee this year in Negros Island Region (NIR).

According to Corporate Communications Officer Frances Ariola of EDC, the activity will gather the smartest and most environmentally-conscious students to battle it out and bring honor to their schools as they learn how to take care of Mother Earth.

“Last year, we heard the best musical bands sing their own songs about the environment in the Positive Energy Battle of the Bands, but this year will bring the students in the Positive Energy Battle of the Brains,” said Ariola.

The quiz bee is open to all college students who are enrolled in any of Negros Island's colleges or universities.

Questions to be asked will be on climate change, renewable energy, environmental preservation, and sustainable development.

Those who want to join should get consent to represent their school.

Each college or university should be represented by two students to join the contest.

The semi-final round in Bacolod for Negros Occidental schools will be on September 28, while the semi-final round in Dumaguete for Negros Oriental schools will be on September 30.

The top three schools each from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental's semi-finals will compete in the grand finals to be held in Dumaguete City on November 12, 2016.

A cash prize of P20,000 and a trip to EDC's geothermal site in Valencia, Negros Oriental, await the champion tandem, while P30,000 goes to their school along with bragging rights for being the region's first Positive Energy Battle of the Brains champions.
