No more muzzle-sealing of PNP guns

FOR the second year, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao will forgo the annual muzzle-sealing of all government-issued firearms during the Yuletide season as ordered by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa.

“Since last year na naupo ang ating chief PNP, sinimulan po niya na hindi na tayo magco-conduct ng muzzle-taping that is to show the public also gaano ka-responsable ang ating kapulisan. Hindi na natin kailangan pang lagyan ng tape ang kanilang mga baril,” PRO-Davao spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said Wednesday during a weekly AFP-PNP press Corps media forum.

Dela Cerna said that police already know that indiscriminate firing is prohibited during yuletide season and that personnel found guilty of this action will be facing dismissal and legal sanction.

“Actually wala po tayong tinatawag na one strike policy, dismissal po talaga ang indiscriminate firing if in case mapapatunayan po na ang isang police officer na ginamit niya yong firearm sa darating na bagong taon, sa holiday season,” she said.

“Alam naman naman ng kapulisan talaga na bawal gamitin ang baril kung bagong taon. Hindi yan isang tool para i-celebrate ang New Year so we will not have much muzzle taping like what we did last year wala po tayong ginawang muzzle taping,” Dela Cerna said.

The national headquarters had also given a memorandum not to solicit during holiday season.
