RESIDENTS in Barangays Camaman-an, Lapasan, Gusa, and Tablon are advised to store water following an announcement by the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) regarding the repair of a facility in Barangay Tablon which will cause water service interruption today, November 14 and November 15.
In an advisory, the COWD said the existing vertical turbine pump of production well No. 29 in Barangay Tablon will be replaced with a submersible-type pump on Monday, November 14, beginning 9 a.m. and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, November 15, at 5 p.m., as part of its upgrading of facilities.
Low water pressure to no water will be experienced by the identified barangays, particularly in elevated portions and multi-storey buildings.
"Affected customers are advised to store water in clean covered containers enough for their consumption during this period," the advisory said.
The COWD has been upgrading its facilities beginning early this year to ensure its wells are climate-change resilient and as well as to ensure efficient water delivery even during disasters.
It explained that the submersible-type pumps have both its motor and pump under water, and thus, are not easily affected when floods occur and less likely be damaged in any activities.
The COWD is targeting the completion of the facilities upgrade by 2018.
Aside from replacing pumps, the COWD is also continuously conducting well logging as part of its preventive maintenance which enables them to inspect the condition of the wells. (PJ Orias)
