THE Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City, Negros Occidental received on Wednesday a financial assistance of P500,000 from the Provincial Government for the security enhancement of the jail facility.
Chief Inspector Castle Masip, jail warden of NODJ, told VoxPop Bacolod yesterday the financial aid is allotted for the procurement of at least 32 high-end closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and two monitors.
Masip said the Provincial Government will also provide the jail with a sports utility vehicle to be used for transporting high-risk inmates to different courts.
He expressed gratitude to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. for supporting the needs and programs of NODJ.
The NODJ also received a brand new-van from the national headquarters of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) last Monday.
It was turned over by Senior Superintendent Joel Superficial, regional director of BJMP-Western Visayas, in rites held at the BJMP regional headquarters in Iloilo City.
Masip said NODJ is the only jail in the province given a brand-new vehicle to help transport at least 50 to 60 inmates in court hearings every week.
Two weeks ago, Masip said the NODJ received an Isuzu 4JB1 engine donated by Enrique Go, owner and manager of Negros Autozone, to replace the broken engine of the other old vehicle.
At present, NODJ has three vehicles.
