THREE months before the year ends, the number of dengue cases in Cebu Province has nearly doubled the number of cases recorded last year.
The Cebu Provincial Health Office (PHO) said that from January to December 2015, they recorded a total of 2,461 dengue cases. As of yesterday, the cases recorded already reached 4,919.
This means there has been an increase of 2,458 cases already.
Dr. Rene Catan, head of PHO, said that their office is addressing the matter.
He said it would be impossible to eradicate mosquitoes, that’s why among the actions they did was locate its breeding areas, conduct misting operations and educate the public about the importance of having a clean household and community.
“In terms of survival capability aning mga lamok grabe gyod kaayo. We cannot totally eradicate them kay maapektuhan man pud ang atong ecosystem and that’s given gyod (It’s not easy to eliminate mosquitoes without affecting our ecosystem),” Catan said.
Storage
Meanwhile, Nino Ismael Pastor of PHO advised the public to be careful in storing water.
Improper water storage contributes to the increase of dengue fever cases.
Pastor said stagnant water attracts mosquitoes looking for breeding areas.
Pastor encouraged the public to always maintain cleanliness to avoid dengue in their area.
