THE 37 families who took the De Lara Park of the Capitol grounds as shelter will receive necessary assistance, said officials of the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental.
The 180 individuals comprising the 37 families are residents of Sitio Mincamansi, Banglay village, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, who all fled their homes on Wednesday, March 29, in fear of being caught in crossfire between the military and the New People’s Army (NPA).
The government troops were deployed in the area for security operations and had earlier seized guns and ammunition in the area.
The Army's 58th Infantry Battalion said they will look into the alleged encounter between the military and the NPA rebels after gunfire was heard in the community.
The residents worried their lives will be put in danger have sought refuge at the Provincial Capitol.
Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano ordered concerned offices of the capitol to attend to the needs of the evacuees.
Capitol spokesperson Nicole Managbanag said the Provincial Government will supply food to the evacuees in the duration of their stay.
Managbanag said the evacuees have told capitol officials that they will return to their village once they get a word from the military that the community is already safe from threats and harassment.
