WORKING for the government has always been his passion and now that he has seen what needs to be done, he is looking for ways to gain knowledge on how to help build communities.
At 23, Melvin Roy Javier has been to places searching for ideas to improve the lives of his fellow countrymen.
Thus, he finds fulfillment in his present work as administrative assistant in Davao del Norte’s Provincial Disaster Risk and Management Division.
He shared that his advocacy to be involved in public service started when he was exposed to other people's lives from across different countries in Asia.
He joined the Asean Youth Convention 2015 in Thailand, Bangkok and witnessed how other teenagers were so good on each of their fields when if you think about it, they all came from the same background.
“There were really good inputs that I got from them, what stuns me are we have the same livelihood and lifestyle yet they appear to be more civilized,” Javier said in an interview.
The young Javier normally went curious and spent some hours more talking with colleagues from the Asean. Then, he discovered that his mates were really seriously into business and marketing.
“In our place, we only farm and that’s it. We never really knew the end of how our products go about,” he continued.
“I think that a province like Davao del Norte, center for agricultural and food resources in the Philippines, has a huge potential,” he added.
The people in his province have been farming (banana, rice, coconut) their whole lives and has perfected the process of producing export-quality goods. Only, they are lacking the awareness on how to make more out of what they already have.
Thus, he wishes to gain education in academic institutions abroad to be aware of what more to do to make more out of what his province already have.
“I want to gain entry in this university abroad because their graduates have been successful in planning their finances and I want to do more for my kababayans,” he said.
Though it is a long shot, at least, Javier, now equipped with the awakening is on his way to reach his goal. And his family and friends are ever helpful he would make do of his aspirations.
