CATBALOGAN CITY -- The government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) National Greening Program, seeks to plant 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 billion hectares by end of 2016.
In this connection, the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Eastern Visayas issued a memorandum circular dated August 24, 2016 and addressed to all local chief executives to join and support the project.
“Oplan Broadcastreeing 2016” is a nationwide tree planting activity spearheaded by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in cooperation with government agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Since 2011, DILG has partnered with the KBP in implementing the Oplan Broadcastreeing Project pursuant to a memorandum of agreement signed between then DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and Herman Basbaño, president of the KBP.
Marivel C. Sacendoncillo, acting director of DILG Eastern Visayas, said the regional office encourages all local government units to participate in the Oplan Broadcastreeing 2016.
“Please be involved again so that we can significantly contribute to the realization to the goal of planting 1.5 billion trees nationwide,” the DILG director said in his memorandum issued August 24.
All activities for Oplan Broadcastreeing 2016 will be simultaneously conducted in the month of September.
In Catbalogan City, the KBP-Samar represented by the DYMS Aksyon Radyo said the Oplan Broadcastreeing Project will be conducted on September 3 (Saturday) at the DENR Mangrove Reforestation Area located in Barangay Pupua, Catbalogan City.
The group, which will gather themselves at Pieta Park around 6 a.m. of September 3, will plant around 1,000 mangrove saplings.
Expected to participate in the activity are local broadcasters, journalists, government officials and employees, military and police, villagers and students. (Ricky Bautista)
