DAVAO City Councilor Bernard Al-ag seeks to pass an ordinance by May that will put more strength to the city's drive against mosquito-borne diseases.
Al-ag, who represented Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in All Mosquito Borne and Parasitosis Prevention and Control Symposium held at Tugbok Proper Covered court Friday, March 31, said the council seeks to craft an ordinance that will cover prevention of mosquito-borne diseases like engue, Zika virus and many others.
“We will institutionalize the programs in every barangay. We will be mandating them to allot budget for anti-mosquito borne diseases,” Al-ag said.
Al-ag said for dengue, ongoing programs are in place but the disease still continues to be a persistent problem of the community.
“Usahay mutaas, usahay muubos (sometimes it will increase or decrease), but the ultimate goal is zero incident,” he said of dengue.
He added the city aims to achieve this with the active participation of the communities.
Al-ag said in some villages in the city, there are already formed committees against dengue and are constantly implementing the prevention programs advocacy for these kinds of diseases.
He said they are now in the public hearing stage for the crafting of the ordinance. They have conducted three public hearings.
