Organizers to forego fireworks display in Sinulog Mass

ORGANIZERS of next year's Fiesta Señor will forego its yearly fireworks display during the traditional Vespers Mass.

During a press conference Thursday, officials of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño said they planned to use the yearly fireworks allocation as donation to relief efforts in Leyte, Samar and Marawi City.

Fr. Noel Cogasa, who is in charge of the Fiesta's Liturgical Celebrations, said they usually spend P100,000 for their yearly fireworks display which is often held after the last mass a day before the fiesta.

The mass, known as the Sinulog Mass, is often presided by Palo, Letter Archbishop John Du.

Cogasa said that aside from donating the amount, the organizers believe that foregoing the yearly fireworks display will make the Sinulog Mass more meaningful.

Fr. Aladdin Luzon, who is in-charge of security, safety; and peace and order, said last August, they donated P300,000 to those affected by the Marawi Siege. (JKV/VoxPop Cebu)
