THE Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) office hired 35 new traffic enforcers to resolve the congested vehicular traffic in Cagayan de Oro City.
Jose Edgardo Uy, Task Force Hapsay Dalan chairman said in an interview, that the new hires are currently attending a three-week seminar that covers traffic laws, traffic signs and hand signals, among others.
Uy said that the newly-hired personnel will also have to take written and practical examinations on the road.
The City Council recently added the committee on Roads and Traffic Management as one of its standing committees in the intention to better address traffic problems here.
In its House Rules, as provided in Resolution No. 12390-2016, the committee is tasked to study, investigate and report on proposed ordinances or resolutions and all other matters relating to road safety and traffic management plans and programs.
City Councilor Romeo Calizo who chairs the committee, said they are eyeing on building establishments that are meant to park private cars in the city.
Calizo added the City Government's plan to create a Homeland Security Department will also help solve traffic woes in the near term.
Uy said that RTA employs 200 regular workers while others are still on job-order basis.
One way to avoid road congestion, he said, is for motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic rules while on the road.
Congested traffic in this city is getting worse lately during peak hours.
Commuters and motorists share the same sentiments on traffic problems especially after 5 p.m. when most people want to go home early.
