CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said Tuesday, March 14, that the resignation of Glen Bañez was "consensual," firing up rumors that the erstwhile city treasurer resigned after a falling out with Moreno.
Moreno said in a statement that Bañez is being recalled by the Quezon City Government, from which he was "loaned" at the request of Moreno when the latter first assumed as chief executive in July 2013.
Moreno said he has recommended the designation of Ramon Mendoza as the Acting Treasurer to replace Bañez to the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).
Mendoza has been Acting Assistant Treasurer since 2013.
Moreno said the BLGF designation of Mendoza as Acting Treasurer came early this week.
Bañez could not be reached for comment.
City Councilor Leon Gan said Bañez’s resignation was a result of the latter’s growing resentment with the Moreno administration.
Gan said Bañez personally told him about this when they bumped into each other at the City Council session hall.
"Dunay higayon nga nakatagbo mi sa session hall nga medyo nakasulti siya nga naa siyay mga pagmahay sa administrasyon (We had a chance meeting at the session hall and Bañez said he has some resentment with the administration)," Gan said.
Gan also cited a supposed "big problem" in the City Hall that supposedly worried Bañez.
"Duna tay reliable source diha nga nagsulti nga dunay dakong problema nga nakapugos kang Bañez nga mohawa sa katungdanan (A reliable source told me that there is a big problem that forced Bañez to resign)," Gan added.
But Gan declined to elaborate on the supposed conversation he had with Bañez.
Gan said he also welcomes the resignation of Bañez, believing it could mean the chance to cleanse the city finance department.
