YOUNG and budding dribblers John Felicilda and Milo Janao Jr. made Cagayan de Oro proud after excelling in the recently concluded Elite 60 Development Camp held at Colegio de San Agustin gym in Makati City, Metro Manila.
Felicilda, a former Corpus Christi High School standout and now playmaker for the National University Jr. Bulldogs, made it to the Mythical 5 as best point guard for the 16-under elite squad.
“Felicilda bested other elite players in his category and that’s big to be the best among them,” said coach Arvin Martinez, who was the Elite 60 regional coordinator for Mindanao.
Janao Jr. of Cagayan de Oro’s Assumption Montessori School Jaguars, on the other hand, became the most outstanding player for Mindanao in the 18-under category.
This, even as ex-Philippine Basketball Association coach Eric Altamirano already scouted Janao as a consistent player in Mindanao for the annually-held NBTC Developmental League.
Altamirano, who heads the Elite 60 program, also manages the SM-NBTC Developmental Tournament, Elite 60’s sister program.
He had seen Janao as a consistent best player in the city and regional levels of the NBTC tournament.
“Dako kaayo nga garbo ni sa Cagayan de Oro nga nadiskobre sila ani nga programa diin napili sila sa pinaka elite nga mga bangiitang player sa nasod karon,” Martinez said.
Aside from Felicilda and Janao, others who tried their best to be at the top of the elite squad were Kent Smith Gelogo of AMS, Duff Ross Galas and Cyrian Boniao of Southern de Oro Philippines College, and Gabriel Nunag and Matthew Kenyon Du of Xavier University High School.
