MORE than 2,500 security personnel will be deployed in the City for the 80th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Police Superintendent Michael John Dubria said during the City Peace and Order Council Meeting Thursday that 2,500 to 3,000 personnel will be deployed from DCPO, Task Force Davao (TFD), Bureau of Fire Protection, City Transportation and Traffic Management Office, Central 911, and Public Safety and Security Command Center.
Dubria said most of the personnel will perform dual purposes in different dates of the Araw Activities.
"The DCPO will have its maximum deployment in coordination with Task Force Haribon and Task Force Davao," he said.
He added for the Parada Dabawenyo, 1,501 personnel will be deployed.
The police director said security conferences were done for the Araw.
"We conducted two security conferences for the 80th Araw together with Public Safety and Security Command Center. I believe that we are prepared especially that we have concluded the Asean Summit (successfully)," he said.
Public Safety and Security Chair Benito De Leon also said they have orchestrated coordination with different police and military components to secure different activities.
"Sa different places nakalatag na ang security measures (Security measures are laid out in different places)," De Leon said.
De Leon added the police will be deployed on visible areas while the TFD and the military will focus on outer areas.
Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Deputy Director for Administration Marcelo Morales also said that PRO-Davao will give support in personnel and logistical requirements to DCPO when need arises.
TFD Commander Erwin Bernard Neri also said they have enough troops to secure Davao.
NPA clashes
Neri said skirmishes after the suspension of the unilateral ceasefire is also a challenge for the city.
But De Leon said additional troops will be assigned to armed conflict areas.
"In the downtown areas, there are no problems as of the moment," De Leon added.
Terrorism monitoring
De Leon said that quick intelligence sharing is employed to take hints on any possible terrorist threat.
De Leon also said that the information sharing has been observed by security agencies under his leadership as it is the main order of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte after the Roxas night market blast.
He added that they look at the Roxas night market blast as a lesson.
De Leon did not dismissed the fact that the Roxas blast may had happened due to "lack of intelligence" coordination but he does not blame the incident on anyone.
"Ngayon maganda naman ang pag-uusap namin (Now we’re having good talks), we share (information), even created Viber groups, so that there is one situational appreciation of what is happening," he said.
He added that Viber groups are also created for quick coordination of department heads of the city on the set of issues.
