OVER 500 police personnel will be deployed for security during the celebrations of the Eid'l Fitr, the closing of Ramadan, at the Quirino Grandstand and Golden Mosque in Quiapo, police said Friday.
Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Superintendent Edwin Margarejo said the cops will be deployed as early as 4 a.m. as the Muslim community is expected to start conducting prayers by 5 a.m. until 9 a.m., followed by festivities and other congregation.
"Influx of religious Muslim personalities are expected to celebrate the festivities and the congressional prayers. We will be deploying more than 500 police personnel," he said.
"Aside from that, maglalagay tayo ng advanced command post and, expectedly, siyempre 'yung traffic situation. Mag-iissue kami ng traffic advisory siguro by Sunday, at 'yung ambulance o help units idedeploy din sa area of activities," he added.
Margarejo said by Saturday, they will already deploy cops in civilian clothes as well as support special reaction units intended for intelligence gathering.
The MPD expects more than 2,000 people to attend the festivities and congregate at the two venues.
Margarejo said they are yet to monitor any threat against the said occasion.
"Wala po kaming nare-receive, subalit magsisilbing hamon ito sa MPD para paigtingin ang police visibility, target hardening at intelligence gathering," he said. (VoxPop Philippines)
