FLOODING during the onslaught of heavy rains have been one of the major problem of La Trinidad town in Benguet province.
With this, the La Trinidad local council unanimously approved a resolution requesting for P100-million allocation for Balili River Flood Control Project.
Addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte, the town is seeking the construction of the flood control to help abate flooding and destruction of properties especially those located along the river of the valley where agricultural products are grown.
Balili is a major water tributary of the municipality referred as the town's catch basin during rainy season, run of and surface water coming from the mountains and roads from Baguio City goes to the river causing flood in the town
"An advice was given to us to submit a resolution. There is no harm if it will be approved or not," said La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda. "We all know the river begins to expand during rainy season."
The said resolution will be forwarded to the Office of the President for his action as the town has limited funding for such projects.
La Trinidad has earlier passed a similar resolution requesting Hedcor to finance and construct a P40 million project proposal related to flood control in the vicinity of Bolo creek and Balili River. A high elevation of water in Bolo creek results to back flow and flood in La Trinidad.
