THE Balamban Police Station and the 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army uprooted and destroyed P1.6 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in Barangay Bayong, Balamban, Cebu.
The joint operation was conducted on Friday, December 15, in a protected area where the police and the army burned 8,341 marijuana plants on site.
PO1 Andi Mabanta of the Balamban Police said that an informant tipped them about the marijuana plantation.
The uprooting and burning started at 9 a.m. on Friday.
No one was arrested. An investigation is ongoing to identify the cultivators of the plantation.
Mabanta said the area is mountainous and it takes one hour to get there from the town proper. This was also not the first time that marijuana was discovered being grown in the area.
The operation was headed by SPO4 Revelito Tadique under the supervision of their chief, Chief Insp. Janette Rafter and Staff Sgt. John Leo Cabafi of the 4th IB. (JOB)
