Pact for Bahay Pagbabago approved

THE Davao City Council has approved the memorandum of agreement between the City Government, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the Bahay Pagbabago project.

The project aims to provide 5,000 houses for families living in flood-prone areas and also to families currently living in government-owned streets.

Majority floor leader Bernard Al-ag on Tuesday said that the housing project will commence this year was approved by the City Council weeks ago.

"This will be funded by the San Miguel Corporation, implemented by the NHA and the only role of the city is to provide land," he said.

Al-ag said that the city identified lots in Los Amigos, Tugbok, Davao City and Tibungco where the houses will be built.

He added that occupants will have to pay less than P500 monthly for the house.

"Naay counterpart, they will pay more or less below P500, 20 years to pay," the councilor said.

He added that the City Housing Office is making sure that the identified beneficiaries do not own houses elsewhere.

The City Government will also secure the water source and electricity of the houses, Al-ag said.
