PHILCYCLING deputy secretary-general for Mindanao Salvador Paholio, Jr. will not send Davao City riders to all national cycling competitions if the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (ICFP), the national sports association (NSA) for cycling, will not replace its current coaching staff.
Paholio, in Thursday's edition of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the Food Cove Hall of NCCC Mall Davao, said he will beg Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) office-in-charge Mikey Aportadera to boycott cycling in the upcoming Philippine National Games (PNG) and Batang Pinoy.
"Sayang lang kasi ang ginagastos ng mga local government units (LGUs) at ng city sa mga competitions kung sa bandang huli yung mga bata lang din naman pala ng mga Philippine team coaches na galing sa pistahan na laro yung kukunin nila para sa mga international competitions," Paholio said.
Paholio also hit the gold-less campaign of the national cycling team in the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, labeling it as the country's worst finish in cycling.
"Kailangan na talaga i-overhaul ang coaching staff ng Philippine Team kasi ni wala ngang level three coaches na nandoon at sayang din lang lahat ng pagod ng mga bata natin sa pagsali ng mga qualifying competitions kung wala din naman palang pupuntahan yung pinaghirapan nila," he added.
He also underscored the decision of PhilCycling national track coach Carlo Jazul for excluding 2015 SEA Games champion John Mier in the roster.
"Di nya kasi bata si John Mier at hindi rin si Jazul ang gumawa ng program nya kaya di niya pinasali," Paholio said.
He added he will meet Aportadera to discuss his concern.
